Obedience
Obedience is the supreme discipline among dog sports. It involves the dog's obedience to commands. Teamwork between dog and human is the top priority. In obedience, you and your dog complete the course together.
Obedience training yesterday and today
Dog obedience training originated in England and was officially recognized as a dog sport there in the 1950s. At first, obedience will probably sound familiar to you. The English word "obedience" means nothing more than "obedience" and refers to those training tasks that in Germany, for example, occur in the obedience section of protection dog training. You'll be familiar with some of the dog school tasks and your dog's basic training. Because obedience is also about commands: "Up!", "Sit!", or "Stay!" But when it comes to obedience, that's not all, and it's not easy at all.
In obedience training, the dog first learns to walk perfectly side by side, literally sticking to the handler's leg while simultaneously looking at him intently. But what's different about dog obedience training compared to the obedience training of my grandfather's time?
Obedience training is exclusively achieved through positive reinforcement, rewards, and attention. Dominance and suppression of the dog through punishment and coercion are no longer part of obedience training and should not be used in any dog training school. Unwanted behavior is ignored, while desired behavior is reinforced through rewards and support. Obedience training is often combined with clicker training. Each correct response from the dog is marked with a single click and then rewarded.
